The Trust was founded in 1990, following recognition of the need to improve facilities at the Bristol University’s Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, in order to accommodate an increase in the number of undergraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students, by expanding both clinical facilities and teaching space.

A major modernisation and expansion programme has been aided by funds raised by the Langford Trust. We have already given the University of Bristol over one million pounds and are working hard to raise another £2million towards a much needed, ultra modern equine and large animal surgical complex.

The following are just some of the projects for which the million pounds have been used.

    • Body systems monitor for the Intensive Care Unit
    • Canine Hydrotherapy Unit
    • Completion of the second hospital stable yard and treatment rooms
    • Equipment for the small animal intensive care unit.
    • Facilities for treating and hospitalising hyperthyroid cats
    • Grants for studies into equine behaviour, pig welfare and equine upper respiratory problems
    • Jim Joel treadmill building and stable yard
    • Laparoscopy and arthroscopy equipment
    • Marjorie Coote clinical stables
    • New surface in the equine centre covered ride
    • New small animal facilities building
    • Refurbishment of the abattoir (to EU standards)
    • Videoendoscope syste
